A meditation, mindfulness, and healing centre on the border of South Africa and Lesotho in the Southern Drakensberg Mountains
Welcome to Dharmagiri, a Buddhist hermitage nestled in the dramatic Southern Drakensberg (uKhahlamba in Zulu) on the border between South Africa and Lesotho. It was founded by Kittisaro and Thanissara in 2000 as a hermitage.
Dharmagiri offers a schedule of retreats that support awakening, contemplative life and well being of body, heart and soul. It is also provides support for self retreatants and practitioners.
Dharmagiri runs on a semi monastic ethos and requests that visitors and retreatants join in the community morning and evening meditation sessions as well as help with simple daily chores. A library of Dharma talks and books is available for retreat support.

“If beings knew, as I know, the results of giving and sharing, they would not eat without having given, nor would the stain of miserliness overcome their minds. Even if it were their last bite, their last mouthful, they would note eat without having shared, if there were someone to receive their gift”
