Join the 3-day Art Therapy Introductory Seminar in Cape Town for an introduction to the process of Art Therapy. No art experience required!
Art Therapy is a creative treatment process which is beneficial for people of all ages to assist in personal growth, insight and development. The skills and experiences gained by participants at this seminar can be adapted to and incorporated in diverse work spheres as well as one’s personal life.
Experiential art making, case studies and introductory Art Therapy theory form the foundation of this seminar, which is suitable for ALL adults including health professionals, educators, therapists, counselors, coaches, students, artists and anyone interested in the field of Art Therapy.
Participants will have daily opportunities to engage experientially with a variety of different art materials and thereafter be guided into organic means of reflection on imagery and its potential meaning. Art Therapy will be explored in relation to different contexts and client groups including adults and children. The seminar includes an exploration of the concept of symbols and the significant role they play in communication in our daily lives and how the Art Therapy process is a means of non-verbal expression and communication through symbols. Information about Art Therapy as a profession, reading material and a recommended book list will be provided.
The aim of the seminar is not to teach one particular model of Art Therapy but to understand the process involved as a visual therapeutic tool; an open concept that can be translated and incorporated into a wide range of different contexts. Various approaches will be explored, which are suitable for a variety of different needs and client groups.
The seminar is facilitated by Samantha Davis, internationally trained and registered Art Psychotherapist (HPCSA AT 0000469) with almost 20 years’ experience.
